So last night while idly perusing the Internets, I came across a link promising some real, honest-to-goodness Atheist Porn. No, I don’t mean that video of the Four Horsemen that makes so many New Atheists all tingly. I mean, actual porn, with boobies and everything. So naturally, I had to research further.
Alas, while AtheistPorn.com does indeed feature boobies, there are only two, and they’re partially covered. The site’s slogan is simple — “No Heaven, No Hell, Just Porno” — but so far they only live up to the first two-thirds of it. The good stuff, the site assures us, is “coming soon.” (Presumably before the Second Coming.)
But not to worry, horny atheists. Because there’s at least one porn star out there who is an actual atheist: the legendary Asia Carrera (real name, Jessica Andrea Steinhauser). And you’ll be glad to know that her arguments for atheism are as sophisticated as Dawkins’ himself. As she explained to one of her fans:
“I am a diehard atheist, and have been since I was about 5 and discovered to my annoyance that there was no santa claus, no easter bunny, and no tooth fairy. well, that was it for me – I resolved then and there that no one was going to sucker ME into believing in any more invisible characters with superpowers!”
She’s even got an assortment of atheist jokes up on her web site. Here’s the first one:
God said, “Let there be light.”
Nothing happened for a few moments.
Then God said, “Who the heck am I talking to?”
Not bad, but it’s pretty much all downhill from there:
Is it an accident that the symbol of a bishop is a crook and the sign of an archbishop is a double-cross?
If man is fallible, is it possible his interpretations of religion are as well?
Neither a rimshot or a rim-anything-else could save that last one.
If this gets any athiests reading this too hot, the quickest way to cool down is with a quick trip to XXXChurch.com, which bills itself as the “#1 Christian Porn Site.”
I don’t quite know how that could be. I spent an hour watching their videos and no one even took their pants off!
Go to a porn message board.
I went to one thinking if there was anyplace on the web free from fanaticism it would be a porn board.
I’ve found fewer creationists at a church social and less fanatical atheism at a socialist march.
Imagine the movie Inherit the Wind starring Beavis and Butthead .
(not the Scopes Monkey Trial, that would take originality of thought).
I think the big difference is there are more virgins on the porn boards.
So some atheists think aligning themselves with porn is clever/worthwhile/original … yeah, right. They probably get that spotty little twerp from the World of Warcraft thread, too.

I am a straight woman who oscillates between agnosticism, on-the-fence atheism, and reform Islam. (That’s right, my family is Muslim. However, as a news junkie who reads philosophy in her spare time, I cannot morally and ethically still call myself entirely Muslim.)
Anywho, one reason that many women do not feel welcome in the atheist community is some atheists’ various excuses du jour for justifying rape, pornography, and violence against women. Truly, in some ways atheism is as misogynistic as the religious fundamentalist zealot extremism that it claims to be better than.
This is a huge gigantic debate and I don’t feel like digging deeper into the can of worms here in the comment section of a blog that is not my own. So I will only remind people of a few things that are put out into the internet ether.
Anyone else remember the postulate from a few years back that tried to assert that rape against women is justified by evolution? I won’t even bother to list logic-based arguments against this, because it is such a sick, vile, cruel notion that a horrific crime is in any way justified. I can only come to the conclusion that proponents of this crap do not possess any capacity for empathy or compassion whatsoever.
And there are notorious trolls all over internet message boards that insist that the only reason women have a problem with sadomasochism or other violent sexual practices is because of antiquated notions of puritanism, Christian oppression, ad nauseum. They conveniently dismiss the fact that sex is a deeply personal, private issue. And a woman, who is a human being, has 100 percent right to decide what happens to her own body, physically, sexually, medically. That is a human right. If she decides she does not want to do something, end of story. It is not open to negotiation, compromise, or discussion.
The woman to whom that body belongs has the final say in what she does with it. All human beings out there, including atheists, would do well to remember that.

Rape is always unacceptable and is never justified. You get morons in all walks of life but because some of them say they’re Atheist, please don’t think we’re all like that.
